Author Month 2023 Posted on 03 March 2023 March is traditionally author month for Waipā District Libraries and we have partnered with the Cambridge Autumn Festival to bring a number of author and other events to you during this festival time. Libraries transform with SMART technology Posted on 03 November 2022 People visiting Waipā libraries this week will notice big changes as members use new technology to self-issue books with digital kiosks. The new state-of-the-art system, called RFID (Radio-Frequency Identification), incorporates a wireless radio system and an electronic tag attached to library items. Winter reading challenge for all ages Posted on 01 June 2022 It's Winter and that means that Waipā District Libraries Get Lit! Winter Reading Challenge returns soon, starting Tuesday 7 June. This year's challenge will span all the age groups with bingo cards available for children, teens and adults. Creativity rewarded Posted on 03 May 2022 With the school holidays and ANZAC Day, April was a busy month for our libraries, not to mention the issuing of more than 38 000 items across the district. It was lovely to see the care and passion that patrons put into their submissions to ANZAC Day displays in our libraries. Colonel Tony Hill (RSA Cambridge President) visited the Cambridge Library display to see the artwork produced to honour the men and women of the ANZACs. Vaccine passes required Posted on 11 December 2021 Following Central Government’s decision to implement vaccine passes and Waipā District Council’s internal risk assessment process, the Chief Executive has determined all Council-managed facilities will require a vaccine pass for entry into any Council building. This decision does not stop our services, but will change how we deliver some of those services for the community. Waipā District Libraries have several options for patrons. Traffic light system Posted on 02 December 2021 Waipā District Council have made the decision that to ensure a safer environment for our patrons of all ages, including those vulnerable in our community, that vaccine passes will need to be sighted for entry to our Libraries. Christmas activities Posted on 23 November 2021 Waipā District Libraries has a number of virtual activities and competitions that can be enjoyed in the lead up to Christmas. Christmas specific competitions include the Christmas Stocking Competition for all ages and for the younger ones, the Kids Christmas Cookie Bake-Off Competition. Libraries open Posted on 02 November 2021 Cambridge and Te Awamutu Libraries are open. Restrictions will continue to apply including limits on numbers inside the libraries. Libraries reopen at Delta Level 2 Posted on 07 September 2021 The Waikato Region will be at Delta Level 2 at 11.59pm on Tuesday 7 September. Our libraries will reopen Wednesday 8 September but with restrictions in place, including capacity, sign in requirements and the requirement to wear a mask. Move to Alert Level 3 Posted on 30 August 2021 On Tuesday, 31 August at 11.59pm, New Zealand south of Auckland will have moved to Alert Level 3. Our libraries will be working under the following conditions: Our libraries will be closed to customers even though staff may be on-site. After-hours returns/bookdrops will remain closed. Alert Level 4 Posted on 18 August 2021 Our libraries are currently operating at Alert Level 4 conditions. This means our libraries are closed as are all other Council facilities. Books Alive Special Events Posted on 26 July 2021 LIANZA and the New Zealand Book Awards Trust are bringing together another year of Books Alive online events and virtual storytimes. Waipā District Libraries have been chosen again to host a Books Alive Meet the Finalists event and two Virtual Storytimes. Egg & Spoon, an illustrated cookbook by Alexandra Tylee, will be presented as a Zoom event, while Hound the Detective and This is where I stand will be presented as virtual storytimes. New fees & charges Posted on 01 June 2021 As a result of your feedback and following Council approval, Waipā District Libraries fees and charges are changing! The new fees and charges apply from 1 July 2021. The great news is that a significant proportion of our adult book collection will no longer attract a charge to borrow. Library services return to normal Posted on 22 September 2020 Library services have returned to normal following the move to Level 1. Normal hours have resumed with the return of late nights on Wednesdays and Fridays. On Saturdays both libraries are open from 9.30am until 1pm. Computers, printing services, magazines and newspapers are all available again. Books may also now be returned inside the libraries. Regular children's programmes will return in Term 4. Alert Level 2 conditions Posted on 12 August 2020 The Waikato Region is now at Alert Level 2. Our libraries are open but with restrictions in place. This affects our opening hours (9am to 5pm Monday to Friday only) and our programmes will also be affected. There will be no Toddler Time, Wriggle n Rhyme or Makerspace until Alert Level 1. School holiday activities and events Posted on 02 July 2020 The theme for the School Holiday programme in July is Winter Warmers! This is a virtual programme that families can do at home or away. Some inhouse events are also taking place. Packs can be collected at either library while stocks last. A few basic supplies from home will be needed but the packs contain instructions (with daily videos on Facebook and YouTube available at 10.30am) and most of the materials needed to do the activities. Normal hours and services return Posted on 16 June 2020 Opening hours at our Cambridge and Te Awamutu libraries have returned to normal. Patrons can enjoy the convenience of late nights on both Wednesday and Friday (open until 8pm). Saturday mornings have also returned which operate from 9.30am until 1pm. Services return from 15 June Posted on 09 June 2020 We are now in Level 1 and our libraries are preparing to return to normal business hours from Monday 15 June! Amongst other things this is to allow time for library furniture to be returned to normal, computers to be tested for use and items for browsing to be rearranged. What's on March! Posted on 27 February 2020 Following a highly successful Heritage month, March focuses on authors and publishing. Ocean Reeve Publishing is coming to Waipā prior to releasing Lisa Tamati's new book. Our libraries will be hosting the free 2 hour seminars in both locations.
