Join local author Marie-ann Quin at the Te Awamutu Library as she discusses her new book "Midwives and Men of War" - a tale that interweaves the rewards and challenges of midwifery with the horrors of war, the joy of love and the heartbreak of betrayal.
About the book:
Louise has grown up watching her mother and grandmother care for mothers and babies as lay midwives in their rural community. The turn of the century brings new rules and regulations that make midwifery registration essential and military service compulsory.
In deciding her career pathway, will Louise follow the wisdom and skills of her mentors or bow to the hierarchy and regimentation of her training?
And with war fast approaching will the men in her life, who are drawn by the excitement and adventure on the other side of the world, return home unscathed?
