Unveiling History: Te Awamutu Cenotaph

Breathing life into the names on the Anzac Green Cenotaph.

To most of us they are simply names on a piece of granite in the centre of town, but these men were also loved fathers, brothers, sons and once valued members of our community. Their loss had a huge impact on Te Awamutu and surrounding districts. Many of these men are buried far from home having died on the battlefields of Belgium, France & Turkey. In preparation for a 90 minute talk at the Te Awamutu Library on 13 March, seven members of the local genealogy group are researching all 58 names on the Cenotaph. A selection of 15-20 of the most interesting stories will be covered in the talk.

Hosted by the New Zealand Society of Genealogists, Te Awamutu Branch.

Morning tea provided.

Registrations appreciated for catering and seating.
